UDORA (University of Derby Online Research Archive) provides open access to the research outputs of staff and doctoral students at the university. Work deposited in UDORA will be freely and openly accessible to a wide variety of people and institutions - including automated agents - via the World Wide Web.

 

Staff research output

What material can be included?

 

Any of the following can be submitted subject to technical feasibility and all legal requirements being satisfied:

 

·      An article from a journal, magazine or newspaper

·      A chapter or section from a book

·      An authored book

·      An edited book or conference volume

·      A paper, poster, speech, lecture or presentation given at a conference, workshop or other event

·      A monograph; this includes working papers, discussion papers, project or technical reports, manuals or other documentation

·      A show/exhibition - an artist's exhibition or site specific performance-based deposit

·      A musical composition

·      A performance of a musical event

·      A digital video

·      A sound recording

·      A digital photograph or visual image

·      A dataset - a bounded collection of quantitative data (e.g. spreadsheet or XML data file)

·      Other research output as deemed suitable by UDORA Administrators in consultation with the University Head of Research when necessary

 

Who can add research material to the repository?

 

University of Derby staff members may add details of any research output conducted during the course of their work at Derby. University of Derby staff members may also add details of any research output conducted after 1 January 2008 at another institution at which they were employed. It is possible to link to material that is already uploaded to another repository as long as relevant permissions have been given (please contact UDORA UDORA@derby.ac.uk for further information).

 

Content policy

 

·      In order to submit work to UDORA, researchers must be based at the University of Derby

·      All submitted material will have undergone a review process, either external peer review, or a suitable internal (Faculty, Research Centre) review

·      UDORA can accept submissions in a variety of formats subject to technical feasibility and copyright permission

·      Where full text or other content files cannot be deposited in UDORA, e.g. because of publisher limitations or because the fulll text has already been uploaded to another repository, then it is acceptable for bibliographic data (metadata) alone to be submitted via the submission process

·      It is the responsibility of the submitter to ensure that the version they are submitting is bona fide and conforms to all legal requirements

 

Research degree theses

Theses from the following research degrees can be uploaded to UDORA:

  • PhD (by research or publication)
  • MPhil
  • Dr of Practice (Health and Social Care)
  • Education Doctorate (EdD)
  • Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA)

Dissertations from taught MA, MSc and MRes courses are not eligible to be submitted.

 

Submitting your thesis

The Research Office will inform the UDORA Administration team that your thesis has been passed by the examiners. You will then be registered to submit your thesis. If you have already registered to submit to one of the Research Centres or Groups, UDORA Administrators will need to enable you to submit your thesis.

 

In submitting to UDORA it is your responsibility as the author to submit a version of your thesis that was awarded AND which meets all legal requirements. You will need permission to include any third party copyright material in the electronic version of your thesis submitted to UDORA. If you do not have permission you will also need to provide a redacted (i.e. edited to remove material where appropriate copyright permission has not been granted) version of your thesis. Permission for third party copyright material is not required for the version of the thesis you submit for examination.
